7 Things That All College Students do to Avoid ...

Emily

If you are heading off to college soon, there are some things that all college students do that you should try to avoid. I know that when I started college, I was surprised by what these college kids do. However, depending on your school and school culture, these things might be different. These are some things that all college students do that you should keep an eye out for:

1. Drink

Underage drinking is one of the most common things that all college students do. Well, almost. I have seen movies about college life and I know that they are often times exaggerated, but college students actually participate in this (illegal!) activity frequently. Not only is alcohol not good for you, but you might be underage. That aside, it is dangerous because alcohol will make you less aware and more vulnerable.

2. Smoke

I’m just going to leave this to your imagination as to what college kids smoke. This actually makes me really sad because a lot of this is a result of peer pressure. If you know that using some substances is illegal or just flat out bad for you, just don’t do it. Don’t risk yourself and your heath for a few scattered cheers.

Frequently asked questions

3. Haze

This is an iffy topic because part of it crosses into Greek life. I’m not going to comment on whether or not this actually happens, but don’t tolerate hazing. Most importantly, don’t do it to others. Schools have very strict policies and I know some people who have been expelled for doing this.

4. Don’t do Drugs

Ladies, don’t do drugs! I know what you all are probably thinking about, but I’m actually referring to those “smart drugs” that college students love, like Adderall. It might seem like a good idea at the time, but side effects include but are not limited to nervousness, anxiety, dizziness, tremor, fear, and headaches. If this doesn’t change your mind about drugs, try looking up some pictures of drug users – eek!

5. Pull All-nighters

Speaking of “smart drugs,” students usually use them because they need to pull all-nighters. Pulling all-nighters isn’t good for you. You need your beauty sleep, and if you organize your schedule and work properly, you won’t ever need to pull an all-nighter.

6. Procrastinate

I know how easy it is to just get caught up with being in college and all the social activities. I was the exact same way. But when you put something off until the very last minute, something will go wrong! Procrastination will catch up to you.

7. Skip Class

If you are going to a big university, this is super tempting! During my freshman year, I skipped so many classes because I didn’t feel like going or because I had a crazy night out with my sisters. Unless you are terminally ill, try not to skip class! Your parents are paying hard-earned money for your education, and if you break it down, each class costs ~$60+!

These are some of the things that I think many college students do. But everybody makes mistakes, so even if you do some of these things, don’t fret! Just make sure you don’t make it a habit or else things might get bad. Did you do any of these things in college? What are some things you want your kids to avoid when they head off to college?

Lol what are you, a saint? :p

Amen Sweta!

Procrastinating depends on the degree. I'm almost finished my bachelor of architecture and procrastination is often encouraged as you may think your design is great but if you come back to it, it often isnt

Hahahahaha hahahahaha "Don't have a college experience" this is so biased and snobby. Where's the human nature?

The only things I do on this are procrastinate and I have skipped a couple classes before. Generalizing this list to all college students is a bit ridiculous.
