There are so many reasons to try your best in everything you do, but especially in school! It may seem like high school is just the place the government stores teenagers until they’re ready to be set free, but it truly is an amazing privilege that should be taken advantage of. College

This is something we all know: colleges base your admission off your success in high school. College isn’t necessarily for everyone, but if you think it’s the path you want to take, don’t underestimate how difficult it is to get admitted. Colleges are getting more and more competitive each day, which is one of the reasons to try your best in high school. In the end, there’s no way around it: you have to show that you’re a dedicated student in order for colleges to admit you.

Life Skills

Trying your best in high school also helps you form great life skills! Whatever you decide to do with your life, if you want to be a successful individual, you will always need to give your best effort. If you try your best to follow through with your assignments, study for upcoming tests, and get involved in school, you’ve gained three valuable life skills right there! Now you’ve learned to be committed, how to prepare, and how to be an active member of your community, which are all skills that can greatly help you, no matter where you find yourself after high school.

3

Knowledge

Teachers have always told me that knowledge is power. And knowledge is gained in the classroom! So, merely for personal improvement you should try your best in school. That way you can soak up as much information as you can to grow into a knowledgeable, independent young woman!

4

No Repeating Classes

Who wants to repeat a class they’ve already taken? I know that if I had to, I’d be miserable. To avoid repeating classes in your later years of high school, you should definitely try your best in class. Since some classes are mandatory, you need to pass them in order to graduate. And you might as well pass them the first time around so you can take fun, interesting classes your senior year instead of making up Freshman Biology.

5

No Summer School

Summer and school are two words that should never be seen in the same sentence! But if you don’t try your best in school, then you could end up seeing a whole lot of summer school in your future. If only for the sake of keeping summer sacred, you should avoid failing any classes. Because, as bad as school seems during the school year, it will only be worse when you’re forced to attend school on a day you should be soaking up the sun on the beach!

Sports

If you’re an athlete, you need to try your best in school to keep your GPA up. If you begin to slack off in a few classes, your GPA will begin to slip and slip until you’re no longer allowed to participate in sports. It’s important to be a well rounded student, so try not to direct all of your energy to sports and none of it to academics. That way you can maintain the minimum GPA needed to stay enrolled in all of your extracurriculars!

7

Parents

For some of us, our parents and their lectures are enough motivation to try our best in school. If your parents have unrealistically high expectations for you, don’t let the pressure to succeed crush you! Instead, let it encourage you to prove to them that you’re a wonderful student by trying your best in school all year long. On the other hand, if your parents often come off as discouraging and seem to have low expectations for you, you can show them that you are capable of greatness by working hard in school!

We all slack off in school sometimes, forgetting how lucky we are to receive an education. But it’s important to remember that there are countless reasons to try your best in school. What is your motivation for working hard in school?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

#1 truthfully I googled why I should try in school so I could get motivated cause yes we live in changing world, so like, is college necessary? I don't think so it kind of depends on what kind of job you're looking for. Because I agree that experience and building a profile is just as worthy as any diploma. so why should I try at school, much rather spend my time honing my skills and becoming the best.
