The end of the school year is, in my opinion, one of the toughest parts of the year. You’re trying to finish up all of your schoolwork, the weather’s getting nice, and you know that not much stands between you and the sweet freedom of summer break! If you’re currently trying to finish strong as the semester closes but can’t seem to stay motivated, this list is sure to help you achieve your goals!
1. Come up with Incentives
I’ve learned that rewarding myself with something instantly makes doing whatever task I need to get done infinitely easier. At the end of the semester, your life is filled with tasks that you have to accomplish but don’t really want to do, like that group project or studying for your last exam. Rather than begrudgingly getting through, give yourself an incentive, like that purse you’ve been eyeing all semester, to make your to-do list a breeze!
2. Remember Your Long-Term Goals
If you ever become bored with your studies, especially at the end of the semester, don’t. Instead, take a few steps back and think about how you pictured the rest of your life and career. Would you be able to achieve exactly what you pictured if you completely gave up on your grades for the rest of the semester? Probably not! That should be enough motivation for you to keep going!
3. Try to Make Some Time to Relax
Look, I know that finding time to sleep, let alone do anything but study, is not exactly an easy task when you’re nearing the end of the semester. The end of the semester is a hectic time in everyone’s lives. However, no matter how much you have to do, you must make time to relax. Relaxing may mean a number of things to you—from a nice bath to a night out with friends. No matter how you choose to relax, just make time to do so!
4. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
I’m a control freak, so when I find my school life getting particularly stressful, I become obsessed with completing it all. It’s almost a challenge for me. I like to think that at the end of the semester, I’ll be able to look back and say, “You did all of that without any help. You accomplished it all on your own!” However, that’s not healthy. If you’re overwhelmed, let the reins go a little bit, even if you’re a control freak like me. If someone can help lighten your load a little bit, don’t be afraid to ask him or her! It will make your life much less stressful.
5. Find a Support System
I usually try to make a solid group of friends in all of my classes, especially the tough classes. If you can do that, you’ll have each other for support, questions, and complaining as the semester draws to a close. I know it can be easy to just want to do it all on your own, but having people who understand what you’re going through and trying to accomplish will make it much easier to stay motivated!
6. Keep All Areas of Your Life Well-Rounded
When you’re really focused on school, it’s easy to let all other aspects of your life go to the wayside. Don’t ignore your friends for the library. Don’t quit eating healthy because you don’t have time. Don’t stop working out. It can be tough to balance it all, but it will keep you much more mentally healthy at the end of the semester if you’re keeping every aspect of your life balanced!
7. Have a Routine
Routines are so important when it comes to motivation and balancing everything. If you’re really trying to stay motivated at the end of this semester, come up with a routine that you stick to every single day, no matter what. That routine will help you become so much more efficient in all aspects of your life!
