1. Cool down
I don’t know about you, but when I get moody I can always tell. There’s a little voice in the back of my head that says “Sabrina, this isn’t you!” But I can’t seem to hear it unless I give myself a chance to cool down. When you sense yourself being overemotional for no rational reason, take a step back and cool down to deal with moodiness. It will stop you from doing something you’d regret and prevent you hurting anyone’s feelings.
2. Explain
The people around you react negatively when you display moodiness, but they probably wouldn’t if they knew what was going on. Everyone knows that teenage girls have to deal with an array of unfamiliar, unrequested emotions each day! So explain that you’ve either just started your period, are about to, or that things at home are crazy. Your loved ones will understand and be sure not to take any unkind words too seriously.

3. Get Some Perspective
Moodiness is such an internal process that sometimes all it takes to effectively get rid of it is some perspective. If you imagine what your actions look like to those around you, it might be easier to get them under control. And how do you manage your actions? By managing your emotions and keeping moodiness to a minimum.
4. Get Lots of Rest
Moodiness is usually caused by hormone imbalance, and in my opinion, the best way to deal with imbalance in the body is to give it the rest it deserves! A lot of teens don’t get nearly enough sleep, so they become cranky. You may turn to caffeine to solve your problems, but eventually you’ll crash and become a whole different kind of cranky! The only surefire way to make sure your body is refreshed and well-rested, and therefore prepared to smile through the moodiness, is to sleep!
5. Eat a Balanced Diet
Again, balance in the body is critical to battling moodiness. Moderation is key to maintaining a balanced diet, and is a great habit to start when you’re young. Sure, we all love chocolate, junk food, and sweets, but those aren’t what you should consume the most. Instead, eat healthy fats like almonds and avocados, protein, and natural sugars in fruits. If you splurge every once in a while, no harm done, but maintain balance so that your body knows what to do with everything going into it and can act accordingly.
6. Smile
Did you know that smiling actually makes you happy? Your brain doesn’t always know that you’re faking it, so when your brain senses you smile on the outside, you get happy on the inside! Try it. Smile and you’ll kill your moodiness and feel much better!
7. Exercise
Just like smiling causes your brain to make you happy, exercise will do the same. Exercise releases endorphins, the "happy chemicals". Endorphins will defeat moodiness like no other and leave you with a natural high! Plus, you’ll burn off some fat and build muscle, which is always great!
No one likes dealing with moodiness - not you and certainly not your family and friends! But it’s relatively easy to deal with moodiness, as long as you focus on the ways to understand it, counteract it, and create balance in your body. How will you try to deal with your moodiness?
