7 Vital Pieces of Advice for Teens Struggling to Love Themselves ...

I recently watched a show that offered some great advice for teens struggling to love themselves. It made me start researching and along the way I found quite a bit of wonderful advice teens need to hear. Personally, I wish schools would give out this advice for teens struggling to love themselves. My guess is it would help teens be stronger and less susceptible to bullying.

1. Everyone Feels Alone Sometimes

(Your reaction) Thank you!

One of the most important pieces of advice for teens struggling to love themselves is it's okay to feel alone sometimes. Even people with dozens of close friends have moments where they feel completely alone. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you. We all deal with problems that make us feel alienated sometimes. It's okay and you will feel better soon.

2. Magazines Aren't Real

(Your reaction) Thank you!

For the most part, all the women you see in magazines aren't real. Sure, it's the person, but the photos have been altered to look perfect. No one looks perfect, even celebrities. Doing everything you can to be like those perfect images you see won't work. Be happy being yourself. Remember, some people might not like you, but they don't matter. The only ones who do matter are the ones who care about you.

3. Bullies Are Liars

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Ignore anything a bully says. They're not intelligent and all they do is lie. They enjoy causing others pain, usually because they're not happy with their own lives. I know it's hard, but don't pay attention to their hurtful words. In the end, you'll be the one going places and they'll be forever stuck as a childish bully with no real friends. Once you know their words aren't true, it's much easier to ignore them.

4. You Deserve to Be Loved

(Your reaction) Thank you!

After hearing hurtful words, sometimes you might not feel like you deserved to be loved. Everyone deserves to be loved by someone. Whether it's family, friends or a significant other, you do deserve love. Start by loving yourself. Love all of your positive qualities and you'll soon learn to love your flaws as well. Talk to someone who cares about you and let them tell you all the reasons they love you.

5. You Don't Have to Know Everything

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Teenagers often feel like they have to know everything. You're young and you don't have to know everything. Even adults only know a little at best. Stop feeling like you have to be super smart in order to be good enough. It doesn't matter how much or how little you know. You'll learn everything you need as you experience life. For now, just focus on being a happy teenager.

6. Everyone's Flawed

(Your reaction) Thank you!

So what if you have flaws? Everyone has their own set of flaws. I'm randomly clumsy and tend to jumble my words when I talk. It's embarrassing at times, but it's just a part of me. The people who love me just laugh and I laugh right along with them. Embrace your flaws and realize they're an important part of you. Odds are, others already love those flaws and couldn't imagine you any other way.

7. Forgive Yourself

(Your reaction) Thank you!

We've all made mistakes. Sometimes it's difficult to get past them. We spend so much time wallowing in regret that we forget to continue living. Remember, no one's perfect and mistakes happen. Take some time to forgive yourself. Learn from your mistakes and move on. After you forgive, you'll be able to love yourself again. If you're having problems with forgiveness, talk to a counselor who will help you work through the process.

Being a teen isn't always easy and learning to love yourself as you change and experience new things is often difficult. You're a wonderful person and deserve the best life has to offer. Remember, problems are only temporary obstacles. What other pieces of advice do teens need to hear?
