1. Planner
Yes, that is right! The number one most important thing every successful college kid has is a planner. Find one that is set up in a way you will utilize it best. You need room to mark down important assignments, study dates, and other plans. Of course, having a planner isn’t enough; you need to use it like your life depends on it.
2. Laptop or Tablet
Personally, I find a laptop to be more practical, but I know many people prefer tablets. Whatever the case may be, you need something to access the internet to do research, complete assignments, and keep up with what’s going on in the world.

3. Comfy Bed
Every good college student needs a comfortable place to sleep. Getting good sleep is imperative to do well in school. It’s hard to study and retain information with a tired brain, and I am sure your college professor will not appreciate you falling asleep during lectures. If you are living in the dorms, you might want to get a foam mattress pad to add some life back into that awful bed.
4. Like-minded Friends
If you are serious about focusing on making good grades and having a successful school year, it is important to surround yourself with people who share your same goals and will support you. Nothing is worse than a friend who is always inviting you to go out when they know you are planning to study.
5. Study Group
Not only is it important to have the right friends, but you might also want to put together a study group. Talk to a few people in your class and see if they would like to meet once or twice a week to discuss the lecture, share notes, and study for upcoming exams.
6. Food
Hey, if you are wanting to do well in school then you are going to need energy, right? Make sure the food you put into your body is providing good nutrition. Not only will your waistline appreciate the healthy choices, so will your brain. Eating right improves concentration and increases energy.
7. Good Attitude
You are already on the right track by focusing on having a successful year. Be proud of your determination and ready to put in the hard work, but be prepared for rough times. You may study all you can and still make a bad grade. It happens to all of us. Don’t throw in the towel. Get up, dust off, and get back on track.
College can be tough. There are good days and bad days, just like with anything. Having the right tools and a plan are the key essentials of a successful college student. Best of luck in your new year! What are your plans to make this school year better than before?
