1

Keep Your Door Open

One of the easiest ways to make friends in college if you decide to dorm, is to keep your door open whenever you are available for a chat. I guarantee you that people will begin to pop into your room just to introduce themselves and get to know you! So even if you don’t have the guts to make the first move toward a friendship, at least give someone an opportunity to do it for you!

2

Attend Events

What’s so great about college communities is that there is always something going on, especially during the first couple of weeks of school starting. So attend the socials and mingle with your floor mates because as of now everyone is in the same boat. Everyone is trying to make friends and find their place on campus!

3

Initiate Contact

Whether you are sitting next to someone in class, standing in line for food or just passing by, introduce yourself to others with a friendly face! Trust me, in the first few weeks of college, this is not weird at all. Everyone will reciprocate your attempt at friendship, so the more effort you put into your social game, the better off you will be.

4

Take Advantage of O-Week

Every college hosts an Orientation Week before the first week of school and usually it is filled with fun events, shows and information sessions so that you get the feel of the campus, learn more about the school, find guidance from upper classmen and make meaningful connections with other freshmen. Avoid staying in your dorm and instead go out and explore!

5

Join Clubs

In college, there are thousands of clubs that you can join that will appeal to your interests. It’s a great way to pursue your hobbies and meet other people who are passionate about the same thing you are. Plus having weekly meetings will only strengthen your connections and assure some growth in your social scene.

Famous Quotes

To give oneself earnestly to the duties due to men, and, while respecting spiritual beings, to keep aloof from them, may be called wisdom.

Exchange Phone Numbers

No matter how many people you meet in one night, chances are that you will probably never see them again. And this is very typical on big campuses so unless you are okay with one-time introductions, exchange numbers! This is the only way you can guarantee further contact.

7

Join Groups of Friends

A few weeks into college you may notice that people have already formed their own circle of friends, so it is much harder to meet new faces on your own. To overcome this, join your group of friends with another, integrate your little cliques and get to know each other in groups!

Making friends in college is harder for some than it is for others, but in reality it is all up to how much effort you are willing to put into using your social skills. Yes it might require some change in attitude, but trust me you won’t regret it. You may meet some of the best people during your college years! How do you usually make friends in a new environment?
